Manam Resettlement Authority Act to be tabled in Parliament

Chief Secretary to Government Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc has  assured Manam Islanders of the assistance of the Office of the Prime Minister to get the Manam Resettlement Authority Act 2013 to Parliament.
Sir Manasupe gave this assurance after receiving the Manam Resettlement Authority Act from Madang Governor Jim Kas at the Parliament State Function Room recently.

"It is unfortunate that this legislative amendments have not come through the normal process, but let me assure you that this matter will be taken up by the Office of the Prime Minister," he said.
Sir Manasupe said the issue of Madang, particularly Manam, is a very big issue for Papua New Guinea and the world has noticed.
"I think it’s time we resettled them," he said.
"Ten years is too long and it is an embarrassment to us."
"I have been involved in this project since 2009 and we worked but, leaders working together was a problem."
"Today, I am happy with the new Governor and the other Madang members working together to give some political direction."

"I think that is important, having political support and political will is there."
Sir Manasupe told Kas that the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council stands ready to work with him, so that the legislation can be brought forward and work on the proper resettlement of the Manam Islanders can start.
 Kas thanked Sir Manasupe and gave his commitment to work with the government for the benefit of the people of Madang.
