Volcanic ash disrupts PNG flights

AAP
Some Papua New Guinea flights have been cancelled over concerns about ash and vapour from an erupting volcano.
An erupting volcano has caused some flights to be cancelled in Papua New Guinea.
Flights to Tokua Airport in East New Britain have been cancelled because of ash and vapour blowing in from the Mt Tavurvur volcano.
Air Niugini said in a statement the flight suspension came into effect on Monday and would continue for an indefinite period, the National newspaper reports.
Ash and vapour emissions have spewed from Mt Tavurvur for the past two days.
The newspaper reports low to loud roaring and rumbling noises were heard on Sunday night when the volcano erupted.
Comment is being sought from The Rabaul Volcano Observatory (RVO).
